Press Release:

5th April 2004 - UK Formula Ford Scholarship Cup produces two new winners

The opening rounds of the UK Formula Ford Championship produced two different winners in the Scholarship Cup, for drivers of year-old cars. Joe D' Agostino and Julian Yap won a race apiece at Donington Park yesterday, despite tough opposition and tricky track conditions.

American driver Joe D' Agostino triumphed in race one, fighting his way to fifth overall on his Donington debut. D' Agostino finished just two-tenths of a second behind the Finn Valle Makkela who is many people's tip for the title. D' Agostino, driving for Team JLR, turned his Donington debut into a dream by heading home the rest of the Scholarship Cup runners.

With drivers having to contend with a slippery, wet road in race two, Julian Yap triumphed after a stunning drive placed him second overall, and as the Scholarship Cup winner. His Jamun Racing Mygale benefited from the mistakes of others but Yap drove an excellent race to finish ahead of many of the 2004-specification cars.

The next rounds of the UK Formula Ford Championship, including the Scholarship Cup, are at Croft, North Yorkshire, on May 1-2.
